GeneralDownload WinBox, the official Windows-based GUI utility for configuring MikroTik RouterOS devices. Verified download links for Windows, plus setup notes for Mac and Linux.
WinBox is a small, native Windows application developed by MikroTik for configuring and managing devices running RouterOS. Instead of using the command-line terminal, WinBox connects directly to a router over IP or MAC address and presents the full configuration menu as a graphical interface — interface settings, firewall rules, routing tables, wireless configuration, and system tools, all in one lightweight window.
It’s the tool most network administrators reach for day-to-day when working with MikroTik hardware, because it combines the safety of a visual layout with direct access to the same underlying settings available via terminal or the web interface (WebFig).
| Platform | File | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Windows (64-bit) | winbox64.exe | Recommended for modern systems |
| Windows (32-bit) | winbox.exe | For legacy 32-bit systems |
| Portable | winbox64.exe (no install) | Runs directly, no installation required |
Always download WinBox from MikroTik’s official download page or a source that mirrors the official checksum. WinBox is a network administration tool with direct access to router configuration — unofficial builds circulating on third-party sites are a real security risk. Verify the file hash against the value published on the official page before running it on any production network.
.exe.admin) and password.Connecting by MAC address is useful for first-time setup or recovery, since it works at Layer 2 regardless of IP configuration. Once the router has a known IP, you can connect directly via IP address for a faster session.
WinBox is Windows-native and has no official macOS or Linux build. On those platforms, run it through Wine or a Windows VM — see our dedicated guides on running WinBox on Mac and running WinBox on Linux for full setup steps.
Is WinBox free? Yes, WinBox is provided free by MikroTik for use with RouterOS devices.
Does WinBox have a mobile app? No official Android or iOS app exists. See our WinBox app and APK guide for the legitimate ways to manage a router from a phone.
What’s the difference between WinBox and WebFig? WebFig is the browser-based configuration interface built into RouterOS; WinBox is the standalone desktop app. Both expose the same settings — WinBox is generally faster and preferred for frequent configuration work.
