How to Connect After Installing

1. Open WinBox — no installation needed for the portable build, just run the .exe.
2. In the Neighbors tab, WinBox auto-discovers MikroTik devices on the local network via MAC address, which works even if the router has no IP assigned yet.
3. Select your device, enter the username (default: admin) and password.
4. Click Connect.

Connecting by MAC address is useful for first-time setup or recovery, since it works at Layer 2 regardless of IP configuration. Once the router has a known IP, you can connect directly via IP address for a faster session.
